Access Acceleration Trainers Receive Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) TrainingAccess Acceleration Trainers Receive Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) Training:
Access Acceleration is pleased to announce that Coach Karen Kay and Trainer Kelli Langran have both received their certifications as Corrective Exercise Specialists(CES).  The National Academy of Sports Medicine(NASM) has developed this advanced level of training for exercise science specialists that helps them to identify and correct the functional biomechanics of the human body that have or can lead to injuries.

In an athlete, a CES is trained to identify the little things that make big differences in one's training and performance. For those individuals with injuries or who are recovering from injuries or chronic pain, a CES can assist in identifying dysfunction and or imbalances within the body.  Once the assessment has been completed, a corrective exercise program is developed to aid recovery and prevent re-injury.  The NASM assessment procedure is applicable to all those with back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, hip pain, and foot and ankle pain.

Call now to schedule your assessment with either Karen or Kelli.  They will identify your limitations and or imbalances.  Once the assessment is complete, a corrective exercise program will be created specifically to meet your needs.  Over time, as your movement patterns improve, the they will progress you to more challenging exercises and teach you how to incorporate these techniques into your regular exercise or training plan.

Call 603-778-4890 to schedule your assessment today!

Access Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics Now Offering PRP Therapy to Patients
Facility is the first in Northern New England Offering Treatment

Exeter, NH - Access Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics, the Seacoast's leader in innovative orthopaedic care and services, is pleased to announce an innovative new treatment option for torn ligaments, sprained tendons, and other common sports related injuries like tennis elbow and patellar tendonitis. Access Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics is the first facility in Northern New England offering platelet-rich plasma therapy to patients.

Platelet-rich plasma therapy or PRP therapy, is a revolutionary new treatment in which growth factors from a patient's own blood is injected into an injured area. This injection helps stimulate new ligament and tendon growth and helps injuries heal without surgical intervention.

The new technique has been a topic of recent publicity in the national media. PRP therapy was used on the Pittsburgh Steelers' Hines Ward and Troy Polamalu in the days leading up to the Super Bowl in February. Both players were able to play with injuries that may have prevented them from playing had they not received the treatment. Takashi Saito of the Los Angeles Dodgers received PRP therapy for a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament during the 2008 season. As a result, he was able to pitch effectively into September with an injury that might previously have required season ending surgery.

Access Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics has a brand new state-of-the-art Arthrex centrifuge system for PRP therapy in their Exeter location. In a simple 15-20 minute office visit, patients interested in the treatment will have their blood drawn, placed into the centrifuge system which will then separate the red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma which holds the growth factor. Once the high speed centrifuge has completed its rotations, the platelet-rich plasma which remains from the separation is injected back into the injured area.

For more information about platelet-rich plasma therapy and the new centrifuge system at Access Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics, please call (603)775-7575. To read the recent New York Times article highlighting the use of PRP therapy in professional athletes click here.

Published: October 05, 2007: Raider rebounds: Ex-Central star goes from torn labrum to starting QB at Salve Regina

Our College Stars , Mike McMahon
Eagle-Tribune

Two years ago, Central Catholic grad Jeff St. Onge was preparing for a prep season at Worcester Academy when he tore the labrum in his throwing shoulder. It appeared that his hopes of being a college quarterback were dead.

St. Onge never went to Worcester Academy. Instead, he took the year off, working a full-time job and going through rehab on his injured throwing arm.

Now, after two years of work and only one season learning the ropes at Salve Regina, the Kingston, N.H., resident is the starting quarterback, and the focal point of the Seahawks' offense.

"I always saw myself as a quarterback," said St. Onge. "When I first got to Salve, they were thinking of moving me to wide receiver or safety because of my shoulder, but I battled in camp because I knew I wanted to play quarterback."

The Seahawks had seven quarterbacks competing for the job in August, but St. Onge stuck out.

"I think rehabbing the shoulder really taught me a lot about work ethic," he said. "I worked with Karen Kay, a specialist in Exeter, while I was rehabbing. She put me on a program that I had to follow, or else it wouldn't get better. Same here with the trainers at Salve."

St. Onge has been a threat through both the air and on the ground. Through four games, he has 73 completions for 541 yards and three touchdowns. Running the ball, he has 46 carries for 171 yards and two touchdowns. That's almost as many yards as the team's starting running back, Louy Marroquin, who has 198 yards on 66 carries.

"I see myself as a guy who can stay in the pocket and throw the ball, but if I'm forced to, I'll try to make something happen with my legs," he said.

"I don't really have a preference. When you scramble, you aren't always looking to run the ball yourself, you need to use your vision to see the defenders coming at you, while still reading downfield if you can hit a receiver on the run."
